Welcome to Puppets and Stuff, is it possible to see pictures of these items in order to better identify them.

Thanks for the plug LJ. I posted on the other thread, but will add that wayang golek isn't something I've added to the site yet. It's quite literally at the top of my to do list as it's the last of my 'definitions' posts that I've been adding.

Are there any identifying marks on them that might indicate where they were made.

only thing i could find are numbers (corresponding which parts go to which puppet) and names on the sticks.

What are some of the names on the sticks?

Neat! I have 4 of those same heads. I dont think that they are that old. I have about 30 puppets heads from all eras. They are very nicely hand crafted. I do believe these are Indonesian....Wayang is an Indonesian word for theater. Hindu stories coincide with certain puppets.

A good indicator to approximate age is to look at the material/fabric. Does it show age, possible a trendy pattern of the time? How brittle is the fabric. That should give you an idea. You do have a very nice collection. Congrats.
Many puppet heads are sold and said to be vintage or antiques, be wary, some of these have been made to look old. Some do look real old, and wear or should I say scuffing is universal, meaning the scuffs and wear marks are consistant throughout the whole head. This can only mean that they were made recently and either buried, tossed in a dryer or tumbler to show some age. Here is a link to wood aging : http://www.hauntforum.com/showthread.php?t=17697 . It can be done so watch out for fakes.
