Nailed it! What a great likeness. Bravo!

Thanks. Hope to do more of this kind. I have another great subject. Not a client, someone I met and got permission to take his photo and build his likeness. Only problem is I'm having trouble deciding what to use for his hair. He has grey/silver/brown hair that is long, but somewhat thin...one braid down the back. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure I can find fur for the beard, eyebrows and top of head, but not sure what to do about the braid.

You can buy packs of synthetic hair at most beauty supply shops. We have one in town that sells all different colors for $1.00 each. It is available in the sections that do weaves and things like that.

I got wool that was originally meant for felting, grey with just a bit of white and brown in it. http://www.ibo48.de/images/product_images/thumbnail_images/gotland_lamm_-_hellgrau.jpg
mine was a bit lighter and had a bit more brown in it, but you might get the picture.

Yack hair or wool was going to be my suggestion.

Thanks. I looked at the synthetic hair, but wasn't quite sure how to go about using it. I think the wool or yak hair might fit in nicely with a long pile fur. This is a great help. I'm possibly going to also be making a life size woman with long hair in blacklight and I was having trouble deciding what to use since most things do take florescent dye, but wool will. I'll try to remember to take photos of both projects.

Fantastic work! I especially like how the fleece of the jowls creates the wrinkles of the skin. It's very detailed puppet making!

Toys R Us sells extensions in the Barbie section I think?
Re: Caricature Puppet Posted by Out of the Box Puppets on Apr 19, 2011
Thanks Angel. As usual we are swamped on regular puppet orders, so it's hard to get to the one I want to do for myself. So...I haven't started on the new caricature. I did order some lovely long pile fur, so along with the wool I think I'm going to try the felting method. We'll see.
