Start of an alligator marionette Posted by dacostasr on Mar 16, 2011
I'm thinking of doing this in Model Magic (Crayola)...sculpted this in regular clay first to get an idea. I think I'll be able to do it in MM. For size the eyes are Ping Pong Balls.

Ohhh I like! Since you are doing him in Model Magic, I assume he is going to be a rod or hand puppet. Am I right?

Shawn...thanks. I was thinking marionette-tradional airplane controller. I haven't made a marionette yet so I wanted to try one. I have one I bought from the Czech site a couple of years ago.
When I woke up, thinking puppets...don't we all, I started thinking papier mache...decisions decisions.
Rikki...yes I will post a video...thanks

Great start! Love him.
I'm looking forward to see the evolution because I love to make marionettes.
Keep sending in those pics.
Good luck with your first one.

Paper Mache' is going to be lighter then if you use Model Magic I think. Also my experience with the Model Magic is that it was a bit brittle once it dried. Daryl uses it alot and has never mentioned this problem so perhaps it was how I was using it. Also any time you do some thing this big in anything like Model Magic or even Paper Clay it can take a long time to dry. That is one reason I start with a styro foam base when I use Paper Clay and then build up just the details with the Paper Clay. If I didn't it would also crack quite a bit during the drying process.
