The Lion King! Posted by dacostasr on Mar 24, 2011
WOW!  I saw the Lion King on stage in Rochester lastnight...all I can say is WOW!  Not really I can say more...the use of puppets was really cool.  The bird and his expressions... amazing...the hyenas...awesome...the cheetah...very cool...the mask that flip down form mustafa and his brother...cool...the shadow puppets...mind blowing.  The dancing grass...the birds..the story...the set...WOW!

I'm sure you can't tell I was AMAZED.

If you have a chance to see it...GO!!!

I was trying to watch the show and take mental notes of how everything was being controlled...

Later,

Dennis

It really is an amazing show and you what is on tour now is not even the full version.

Soooo talented....ahhhh to have a job like that...that's the life.

I wish it would have been the full version!  I would have sat through the whole thing....TWICE...lol.  Such a beautiful story and amazing performance.

Dennis

I forgot the Warthog and his partner....what unique "puppets"...

Julie Taymour is such a gifted artist...Too bad "Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark", her latest $65 million  flop didn't hold up to the same standards.  I guess it shows you just how much Disney pulls the strings when you work for "the mouse."

And, YES, "The Lion King" is simply beautiful!

I was lucky to see the show 3 times while it was in town. Loved it every time!

I really hope Finding Nemo comes to Australia, it looks fab too.

I"m a little late in the game on this thread, but Na, I saw Finding Nemo on stage at Disney World last Christmas, and yes, it's great!  You totally forget you're watching an hour long theme park show.  Nemo feels like a legit "show."   It is so very well done.  Of course they've brought in top-notch Broadway talent for the artistic team, and it's a really special show!  The soundtrack for the stage version is available on iTunes.

Thanks Kyle - will have to keep my eyes peeled for when it hits Australia. Given Pixar are ramping up for the 3D version of the movie, I'm not sure it will be here anytime soon though

I think for now it's just a theme park show.  You can't catch anywhere by Disney's Animal Kingdom.  Although, with all the high profile names associated with it, the show feels like it was possibly pitched for the Broadway stage.  Who knows where it might go.  Besides, that's how Beauty and the Beast started out...a wildly popular theme park show that was developed for a bigger stage...and the rest is history.

In that case it probably won't ever come here. Until or unless it's planned for Broadway, producers aren't going to be bringing it here. (Except perhaps in cases where amateur rights are obtainable)
