Full body puppet Posted by Claudia Alex on Mar 27, 2011
Hello all, I would like to do a full body puppet, but I do not know how to put the legs on the puppet. Someone can teach or show me how to do, thanks .

Hi Claudia,
I find doll joints work out excellent for attaching both arms and legs. They come in different sizes, and depending on how much you stuff them, they have a great swing to them while performing...
Hope that helps, good luck!

I use velcro. That way you can take the legs off if you want to do something with a half body puppet.
You can use strips of velcro across the top of the legs and on the body, or you make the legs so they become one piece (sort of like a torso) at the top of the legs. The entire torso attaches to the lower body. I can take pictures if you would like.

back when i was 12-14 cant quite rebember the years but me and my grandma used snaps but if i recall correctly after awhile the treads on the snaps became loose. i would use the doll joints like animal31 suggested.

All my puppets are fully lined right up to and to include the mouthplate. So to add legs and feet to a barrel shaped foam body, would I need to attach the legs at the front of the inner 'tube'? (My logo goes at the back of the inner tube).
If the above is correct, the problem is that it's difficult to get doll joints here. What's the next best way to attach the legs? Or maybe some of you could let me know what really doesn't work and why? Thanks!
And, did I see a foot pattern/tutorial here at P and S? Or did I imagine it. I can make my own I guess, but any help or previous experience would help, thanks.

Rosie,
I would just sew the top of the leg into the front seam of the bottom of the body/inner tube. I don't think you need to use doll joints for what you are doing.
Billy had uploaded a quick foot pattern to his gallery.
Seems like there was another one also but not sure where it is now.

Rosie sent you a email with pattern and sewing instructions for the foot.

Thanks for the advise Shawn, but what if I want to take them off?
I got the patterns Billy, a lot of stuff there, thanks a bunch. Should help me out a lot with drafting a pattern to fit.

I sew Velcro on to the legs and front of the body............ that way you can remove them an use the puppet as a half body as Ms Puppet mentioned.
