Yes Rikka I think that could be an interesting effect.

I know someone who uses the thin cutting boards which you can get at the dollar store and you could get about 2-3 puppet plates out of it....I would think that the wood (any wood) these days are expensive.--just a thought.

What I use for mouth plates is scrap leather from Hobby Lobby. One bag costs about $7-8. It's durable and flexible. And one bag can make quite a few mouth plates. I sandwich it between cotton material (often scrap t-shirt) and the fleece for the mouth (I never use felt).

I use sintra for my mouthplates, unless I need a flexible mouthplate, then I use a variety of materials. From foam to gasket rubber to leather. Don't limit yourself to one material, but be aware that paper based materials will bend and warp and disintegrate through contact with sweaty hands.

Couple of questions.
1. Where in Lowe's do you find gasket rubber? The only type I found was a small piece. I had to go to a neighborhood hardware store.
2. Sue - are you using 1/8" Sintra? Again, where did you find it?
FRP works too, but you can't cut it too well with a saw. It is fiberglass.

I've been using the black vinyl lawn edging that you find at Walmart. I glue it to 1/2 foam and cover it with felt. It works well, but I noticed that the mouth won't close flat on the corners.
Anyone know what they use for puppets like Elmo or Ernie?

My roommate works there so he picks it up for me. The sheets are small, about 6"x6". I only get 1 plate per sheet, but it's very durable and super cheap!
here's the link for it.
