I wasn't quite sure where to post this but I think here is as good as any place. I wanted to share an experience from a show I did on Wednesday. I was presenting a show on how to be a HERO to a group of mentally handicapped adults.(won't go into the details of the script but it is a fun show that applies to all audiences)Anyway after I had set things up I was chatting with the people as we waited for everyone to arrive and as I was chatting with a woman in the front row one of the workers asked me if I had been told that this woman was blind. I thought, "OK how will I as a ventriloquist be able to perform for her?" I decided to just do my best and hope that she was able to enjoy the show anyway. Well, during my show I do a bit with my chimpanzee where he makes a balloon "disappear". At the place where he lets the balloon go out of his mouth it flew through the air and landed right in the blink woman's lap! WOW! How perfect! She did have a chance to experience that bit personally even though she couldn't see it! Just goes to show that you never know how things will work out! It was a blessing to me as well! Anyway - just had to share.

Hey don't forget that Edgar Bergen was a HUGE deal on the radio back in the day! Nobody (excepting a studio audience) could see his show either but people loved it none the less. Besides sounds like a little puppet magic made it all work out perfectly! Great job! Keep doing the important work you do!

Great story LJ........... I'm sure the woman will remember it for years to come. It just goes to show that she experienced what a lot of folks would have perhaps overlooked.

Great Balloon landing...lol  It is a challenge to perform for the handicapped. You did awesome. As long as they are smiling and you keep that smile on their face, youre doing a great job. I bet you will remember that show forever. How much do you pay your monkey...lol

When I do a show for handicapped people, I slow my show down and act more cartoonish, so the attention will last a bit longer. Just like when I do a kids show, very animated and a much softer , but louder voice.

I did a comedy show once, a magic show and was told that one of the people in the front row was a big prankster and loved the comedy world. I was asked if some how I could give him a hands on experience with the show. At first I was puzzled on how to include him with visual magic. Good thing I had a squirt gun,...which i always carry to a gig. During the show I acted like I had a slight sneeze, well every so often I would fake sneeze his way and squirt the gun in his direction. Hitting him with the fake sneeze juice...Not only did he think it was funny, by the end of my bit, the whole crowd wanted the fake sneeze squirt gun routine done to them. After the show he came up to me and said thank you for fun I gave him that night. He got a Sonny T-shirt that night and we both felt great about the show.
