Hello to all! Posted by Sugarplumtoaster on Apr 09, 2011
Hey there, i'm new to this site and new to puppeting. For a few months now i've been studying up on some basic mechanics and i've been trying to build my first puppet
It's a push cable puppet. And a dragon thingy to be more specific. I'll post in other boards and stuff with questions and what not as i get further into the process! I'm bad with the lingo, so a few tips here and there would be nice!! Hope to become more aquainted with some good puppeteers! ^^

Welcome to the neighborhood! Sounds like you picked a tough first project. I think you'll find a LOT here to help you. If you haven't already you should swing by the Puppet Building section of the forum and the Tutorials in particular. Lots of good tips. And of course you'll find lots of helpful advice from the many helpful voices to be found here! Though I've only recently begun to post here myself I've read MANY of the forum postings and this is truly a vibrant and helpful community of artists. Have fun!!

I just found a neat way of making a mobile hip (Fettig:
It might be interesting for any rod puppet interested person, I only regret that it's in French- and I regret even more that I didn't pass French in School!- made it work that way) by crossing the cables in the back, meaning that the left hip is connected to the right shoulder and then down to the controller. If I can make it work (haven't had any time at all to work for weeks!) I will FINALLY throw in some pictures.
