Started another Marionette Posted by dacostasr on Apr 23, 2011
I started the crocodile and then I saw a violinist...thought that is cool...I'll try it.  Crocodile on hold.  This is made from papier mache.  I started with a clay model and papier mached on top of it.

The eyes do close...still working on details and strings...more complex than I thought.

Looks cool! Could you give a close up from the mechanisms?

Very nice work!  Are the limbs paper mache' also?  They are so uniform and smooth that they almost look like wood.  I do have one negative comment.  You have got to ditch that white twine!  See if you can find some black braided nylon fishing line.  It works great for stringing marionettes.

Shawn,

Good eye...yes the limbs are bass wood that I carved.  I only used the white twine while I experiment with line placement...I have some black fishing line waiting.  I didn't want to cut up the black - kind of expensive...lol.

I'm learning alot about joints.  I had to redo the hips - they swiveled everywhere when I pulled on the leg lines...fixed that.  His pelvis swiveled like crazy - I rebuilt the hinge so it allows him to bow.

The violin is papermache for the body and wood for the "stringy" part with the frets - I wish I could have found a mini one out of wood...oh well

Rikka,

I'll try to post more shots...he is not on the controller right now...he is on my "homemade" stringing stand with the strings just tied to eyehooks.

THanks,

Dennis

Thanks, Dennis! I will wait. I'm still trying to find a way to operate a mouth. The "normal" way seems aestetically unsatisfing to me...
