Funny I don't remember the tuft of hair idea. LOL  You could try moving the eyes back to where the leg part of the boot meets the foot part (front of ankle)  Also, adding black dash marks with a marker or black craft foam to simulate stitching will also add to the dimension of the colors.  I'm better at this when I have it in front of me with a blacklight. LOL  Also, the boot straps on the edges of the top of the boot.  Sorry if that's not what they're called.
