Attaching a tube Posted by Angel in Tx on Apr 30, 2011
I have a question and I'm not sure how to explain it. I had a really hard time figuring out the subject line! So I'll just try. A friend and I were making a puppet to look like a musical note. We didn't have a pattern, but we just used a head pattern we already had and thought we would use a tube of foam to make the staff part (forgive me if that is the wrong term, I don't read music). We used a doll joint to attach it, like I've done with arms. This worked except sometimes the tube would lean. How can I attach this and keep it standing up and not "wobbly".
I hope this made sense!
Oh, we were using 1/2" poly foam for the head and I think we used some insulation foam for the tube. It's been a while and I didn't keep the puppet. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Depending on how heavy the top of the staff you might need to add a dowel to the center of the staff. Then you will want to hand sew it in place to the back of the puppet. For added stability you will want to extend the staff down the back of the head of the note that way more of the head is helping to balance the staff. Make sense? You might want to consider using 1" foam instead so it will also have more stability to attach the note to the head.

I didn't think of adding the dowel. And just when I was typing the question, I thought, "Why didn't we use 1" foam?" LOL Thanks for the help!
