Really lovely work.. wonderful... does he have a name yet? My puppets tend to get names really early on (but then I am quite attached to them).
On the latex v silicon thing.. have you (or anyone else) tried the flexible kind of liquid neoprene? I'm not sure it would work or how long it would last but its very easy to work with. I know the rigid one is used a lot in puppetry. I have just made a 6 inch stop motion puppet with the semi-rigid variety and because its so thin its pretty bendy. Anyone had any experience about how it woudl hold up compared to silicon and foam latex?
Oh and in reference to the wonderful scuplting and in my posting elsewhere on puppet festival workshops.. One of my first tutorials I cheekily asked for direct to the tutor for some private tuition was a professional sculptor called David Neat (from the UK) and it was quite an experience! I'd recommend learning a bit more sculpting for all puppet makers, its loads of fun.

wow nice work! and it is no wonder, you have worked on an impressive amount of shows and movies. I met a guy once from KNB named Gino Crognale. He also had an impressive list and was an awesome talented person. I can not wait to see how this all looks in the end. Exciting stuff!

Thanks again for the kind words.. It means a lot!
Rpage - I don't know Gino Crognale.. Is he also a puppet guy along with the KNB stuff?
I know and have worked with Howard (the 'B' in KNB). He is an awesome guy..
In regards to the puppet, I am just working on the eyes today.
Hopefully I will have some pics later tonight!

Hey All!
Today I worked on the eyes for my puppet. They are all hand painted and veined; made out of acrylic.
I 'THINK' I am pretty much done the sculpt. I am going to show some of my co-workers and see if they have any ideas.. but otherwise; I will be starting the molding process next week!! YAY!
Rpage.. I hear what you are saying.. much of the work done in Special effects labs would make AWESOME puppets..
That is why I am doing this project.. I have been working for so many films and shows that I haven't done anything for my own ventriloquism show in years..
Everyday that I am at work making monsters and fake body parts; I get so eager to do my own thing for a change!
Stay tuned.. and check out my old man's eyes!

The eyes look great. May I ask why you made three of them?

Do you use the same technique as used here at http://www.kenstools.com to make acrylic eyes.

Hey!
Shawn - I always make extra eyes.. in case any don't work out. It is a real process to make these eyes and if there is an air bubble or if the acrylic goes clowdy - you have to start over. But if you make 3 and one doesn't work out; you still have a set that you can use!
Billy - I use my own technique to make eyes.. it is a culmination of several different techniques that I have experimented with over the years. It is kind of a streamlined version of 'eyes made easy'..
If you are interested in making eyes; I would certainly recommend Kens video and tools though!

Whatever technique you're using it works! Again, awesome stuff! I'm so enjoying seeing the rapid evolution of your character.
