Cool thing. For a puppet in this style you could also use the famous 3rd eye to make him a great yogi- that would give it a great effect when the "unsuspected eye" suddenly opens...
I'll work out a drawing for you concerning the "Faulenzer", but I couldn't get it done this weekend, since I had to do my garden (it started raining yesterday). I will enter the fight with some graphic program (I have absolutly no experience drawing on the computer) and send you a PM, k?

Hey All!
Wyoh - I don't have a name for this guy yet.. I have an outline of the routine I will be doing with him, but I will definitely need to work him out to get his character down..
Any ideas from you guys would be great!
All I really know is that he is kind of a hobo type of character that is relatively close to death... In fact - he will definitely die on stage.. all in the name of comedy. But it will actually be kind of a sweet routine. Nothing tooooo terribly morbid.
Rikka - thanks! I look forward to seeing the faulenzer!
As far as updateing the project goes..
I have started doing a silicone back-up mold of the old feller.. This will take a few days. Then I will free him from that and do the actual mold for running the skin out of!
Stay tuned!

How would the silicone backup mold be used? It would be a flexible mold right unlike the one for pouring the actual skin of the puppet which would be rigid right? Is there a medium you can pour in the silicone mold that allows you to make another rigid mold for use?
Re: New Puppet I am working on - old hobo Posted by damien666 on May 19, 2011
Hey Shawn!
Yes.. The actual mold for running the skin will be made out of a rigid material.
The extra silicone master mold of the sculpt will be good for several things:
- If I want to make any slight changes, I could pour clay into it and it will be easier to start from that as opposed to re-sculpting
- If I want to do a display head or do a head out of a rigid material for any reason - I would have that option.
- If I want to make duplicate molds as you were inquiring about; yes, I could pour clay or another material into it to use for re-molding..
Doing this Master Mold is just an extra insurance to have.. It is like backing up a file on the computer.. If anything bad happens to the original, you have the back-up.
It's an extra step and uses extra materials - but it's nice to have on hand.
I have added Keys to the silicone so that it will key into the jacket mold that will be made out of Ultra cal plaster.
Check it out at the link

Hmmm... poured clay... never done that before. Do you just heat the plasticine clay till it is liquid?  What did you use for the keys on the silicone?  Never seen keys done on a silicone mold before like that. Then again my knowledge in this area is very basic. Most my work done in this area was when I was still in my teens early twenties and it was more just me experimenting with latex and plaster.

Hey Shawn!
Yes - you can indeed melt clay until it is a liquid state.. It is basically molten hot when you do it though (I have several bad scars from working with melted clay; it will take your skin right off - even if you just get a little splash on you).
The keys are made out of the same silicone that I brushed onto the sculpt..The keys are just strategically placed onto the silicone so that it will lock back into the plaster jacket.. It is basically a flexible mold (the silicone) inside a rigid shell (plaster) that ensures that the silicone keeps its shape..
The bottom of the page shows the plaster jacket that is encapsulating the silicone.

In regards to just having basic knowledge on this stuff, I have been doing Effects for years - and I still learn something new everyday..
I am happy to answer any questions as well as hear any advice you guys may have! I love this forum!
Thanks
Damien

Check out the link to see the silicone mold of the sculpt.. Next - I will be doing the actual mold for running the actual skin.

The sculpt was totally intact when I de-molded him; so no damage was done to him in this molding stage.. I was a little worried - but he came out great! I will do his mold next week - stay tuned!

Hey folks!
After several days of work, I have finished the negative mold for the puppet.
My next step is to make the positive.. Hopefully in the next couple of days..
Than I can start trying to get skins out of this mold!

It don't look like much right now  - but it will be a puppet soon... hopefully
