I Used a hair tie for this snow man's mouth! It worked out really well.

That did work out well!! Where did you string the fishing line through and did you have it tied to a metal ring to operate with a finger?
Re: simple trigger puppets Posted by RYMANOFSTEEL on May 20, 2011
I used to pins to pin the mouth to the puppet's face with a fishing line attached in the middle. I Ran the fishing line down the front of the puppet and made absolutely no effort to hide it since if you were more than 6 feet away it could not be seen. I was considering running it under the scarf but then it hindered the functionality of the mouth. I had a dowel rod up through the snow man that I held with my felt hand and I used my right hand to control the mouth, so unfortunately I could not use arm rods on him. In the future I will use a trigger system to control the mouth so I can use arm rods. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much!! I will see what I can come up with!!

look at cruppetman in the gallery. He has a choir that works on a string/ring assembly.

Thought I would embed cruppetmans images here for refrence. Looks like it could be usefull. He was useing a different type of puppet but the concept is the same.
Looks like this choir of puppets where mounted on a board. They have screw eyes underneath each that guide the string down.
This shows how the lines where all controlled as one.
Now you could skip the screw eyes and simply run the line down the front of the puppet like Rymanofsteel did. Then at the bottom tie it to a ring. Then off the bottom of that ring attach a small piece of elastic that is then attached to the rod to keep the ring and string from flying around. Then simply pick up the rod and slip an index find or the thumb through the ring to pull down on it. The other hand would still be free to control arm rods! Might have to play with the length of the string and where the ring gets tied off on the rod. BTW: You could just use another piece of string to tie from the bottom of the ring to the rod but it might not be a stable. The elastic would give the whole setup some stability I think.
