Hello from Hyattsville, Maryland! Posted by dhorlick on May 29, 2011
Hi, everybody!

My brother and I made this movie yesterday. Your forum posts were a big help during puppet assembly -- thank you!

Thanks for the encouragement! Easter grass hair looks great in light wind… just be prepared to be picking it up off the floor for the next month.

Loved it! I cant wait to see the next installment. Idea to keep that grass hair on his head...One of my all time favorite puppet materials is Plasti Dip spray, clear. I would think it might work to keep it all on his head. If you try this, please test it out on an experiment piece. Just a quick spray is what i think might solve that problem.

Another way to keep the hair on (time consuming for sure), is to use a piece of plastic canvas. Cut it to size and pull several pieces of grass 1/2 way through an opening of the canvas. Pull the other ends of the grass through another opening.  Keep doing this until you get the fullness you want, then stitch or glue the canvas to the head. You can do the same with yarn.  If you want loops instead of loose ends, fold the grass or yarn in half and pull through an opening to desired height.  A latch hook (used for rugs) or small crochet hook is very helpful for this.

Thanks for all the hair attachment suggestions! I've had modest success so far with my hot glue gun, but it sounds like the Plasti Dip spray in particular may be a good compromise between coverage and effort.

I loved the way you play: it looks like he is very surprised by everything. Like he was exploring our world. Wonderful! Greetings from over the big pond.
