Hi all, I could use some tips... for the closing song for this we have to have two puppets on drums and guitar, making them is no problem BUT I just discovered that I can't 'play' and sing at the same time!  The odd thing is, I play guitar and sing in the real world with no problem, lol. Any tips for getting this done? And for the drummer we've decided to sew the hands crossed at the front with sticks, so the puppeteer only has to deal with one armrod. Any tips for drumming? And how do we best support the drum and keep it in place, do we place in near the front or have it further back? Not sure.
Any help/advise would be appreciated, and we have practice tues, thurs, fri and we perform on saturday! 

In regards to strumming and singing at the same time, it would simply take practice to get it down.  That being said, you might not have the time so what if you attached the strumming hand to the guitar. If on the guitar you put some clear fishing line going from top to bottom of where you want the hand to strum. Then on the hand use a bit of fishing line to create loop of such that attaches to the line on the guitar.  Movement of the puppet should give some movement to the hand.  It won't be precise but hey it is a puppet.   This is much the same concept as on large body characters like Big Bird where you string one hand up so it has some life.

I would put your drummer on a "platform" towards the back of the playing area. Do you use the curtain type stage? A smaller version of that could be your drummer platform but on the front of this you actually create playboard that the drums can set on.  This makes full sense in my head but if it is confusing let me know and I'll give it another shot.

Shawn, I'm going with your idea to kind of have a platform, I've been working on it, what I've done is make a platform that is sewn to 'Eddie the Rock Star's' tshirt hem, the drums are on that, and I've used black thread that goes to his upper chest area to keep it in place. I've sewn his hands crossed with the armrod going thru the bottom of the platform so the puppeteer can just push the armrod up and down from under the platform. I've had to make the drum sticks shorter since there's not much space to work with.

I will to figure out your idea for the guitar now, I hope you mean that I won't have to think about strumming and it will be something that just happens... so I can concentrate on backing vocals, lol.

Yes the idea of having the right hand of the puppet rigged to the guitar would make it so you did not have to strum. You know it might work just as well to run a string from the right hand to the top edge of the guitar above the strings where you strum. That should let the hand swing back and forth and give the illusion that he is strumming it.   To visualize this put your own hand at your belly and imagine a string going from your thumb to your the center of your chest. If you moved your hand would swing right to left back and forth.

I get it now, Shawn, thanks a lot, it works a charm! I just have to move him and sing and he plays by himself! I don't need armrods at all, his left hand is attached to the upper fret board like he's playing chords.

Looks good.  So you had to string the hands of the drummer to the drums it looks like. Is that to control them some so they don't go flailing all over?
