Thanks Shawn! That is of course exactly correct. I had thought of cementing some of the joints but found that for my use it hasn't been necessary. In any case here are the dimensions for the rack. Pardon the crudeness of my sketch.

 Dimensions

Here's the list of required parts.
35 feet, 8 inches of 1 inch PVC pipe
17 "T" Joints
11 Caps
2 90 degree elbows

Let me know if I can be of any further help and best of luck!!

Pressure fit means that the pipes where not glued together. This is pretty common when folks use PVC pipe for things like this including as a stage. It makes it easier to take apart and store or move.  Sometimes only parts that are vertical are glued together like on a stage but then some horizontal joints are left unglued so you can compact down and store or move.
I thought it was the opposite, that you glue the horizontal and leave the vertical unglued because gravity holds vertical together?

Snail... you are right.  I got my hors and verts mixed up.   The sun sets on the horizon and that is a line that runs from left to right not top to bottom.

That's really a cool rack. Might have to think about doing something like that.

Thanks Chris! It's quite easy to build and pretty darn cheap too! I don't think it cost me more than $25. Got to love PVC!

I hope your show goes great!  Let us know!!!

It occurs to me after looking again at the sketch that I might not have made it clear that ALL the sections of PVC that will hold puppets are the same 19" in length. Of course that was the length that worked for my needs. You can cut them to whatever length is appropriate for your puppet storage needs. Hope your show goes great!!

Thanks for all the information Puppetainer. This is a much better idea than have them individual.
The Revenge of the Pumpkin Head went sooo well. Everyone enjoyed it and laughed so much. You never quite know what your response will be until you perform. We had so much fun performing. Thank you everyone for all your help and encouragement.
