Nettlecatfish Posted by Shawn on Jun 15, 2011
Hana Backland recently contacted me via email to let me know about a live-action puppet pilot called Nettlecatfish that has been produced.
No Longer Available
Nettlecatfish from Hana Backland on Vimo.

It is well produced and quite entertaining! I invited Hana to register and join in our community here.  Hopefully she will.

I really liked that. Is it filmed in Cornwall? I loved the setting. What is Nettlecatfish? Not a dog, right? Nicely done!

I don't think it is a "real" thing.   I did a quick search on the word and it pretty much just returned links to the pilot itslef.  I did find these comments on the show in a blog and in it they say...
We are not entirely sure what Nettlecatfish is, in terms of animal, vegetable or mineral but his name suggests a little genetic modification to say the least.

If you separate the two words you come up with a combination of plant and animal (fish).  According to the Free Dictionary - Nettle it is ...
Any of numerous plants of the genus Urtica, having toothed leaves, unisexual apetalous flowers, and stinging hairs that cause skin irritation on contact.
I'll assume that we all know what a catfish is ... then agian maybe not. Free Dictionary - Catfish

I agree this is well produced and I enjoyed it very much. We have nettles here in SC.... they are much like a weed and can stick you.

Hello Rosie, Shawn & Billy,
Thanks so much for the little Nettle-shaped flurry above.
I'm really very pleased you can appreciate the potential in our pilot.
As you guessed, Nettle is a bit of a mixture really.. part cat, part fish with a penchant for stinging nettles!
Our model of shooting enables local kids to shadow our professional crew and we're all besotted with our beloved corner of the world, its natural environment and rural communities.
Please do share it about if you're FB inclined as the kids and I show it to commissioners shortly.
Best wishes.. I'm very glad to have found puppetsandstuff!

Welcome to Puppets and stuff Hana........... I look forward to seeing future episodes

Hi Hana, nice to meet you! I now understand that you refer to a cat and a fish, not a catfish. I can see the cat in him. The kids are natural actors too. Well done!
BTW: Where is it filmed?

@Billy, your stinging nettles look strange, back home I've made Nettle soup, it's very good and english nettles look nothing like SC nettles, have you ever cooked with them?!

Welcome Hana! LOVED the video! Excellent work all around! Best of luck and I look forward to seeing more!

And Rosie I'm much more familiar with the photo of nettles that you posted. Here in the Wisconsin/Illinois part of the states that's the plant I try to avoid.

Rosie I never ate weeds before........... My Grandmother told me of these things but I'll stick with the produce at the store. LOL
