HAND tutorial? Posted by dacostasr on Jun 17, 2011
I'm getting old...lol.  SOmewhere I saw a good tutorial on building foam hands, putting wires in to make the finger positionable (word?)...

I can't remember where I saw it.  THey where using green upholstery foam and cutting slots for the wire... galvanized wire I think they said.

Anyone know where I might have seen this? LOL. ARRRG.

Thanks

Dennis

Thanks for the quick response...I've seen the project puppet one...I have some of Jay's...does the hand one show wires in the hands?  If so, I'll buy that one...yes Jay's videos are great.

Thanks again...if I can't find the one I'm looking for Imll probably do the PP one.

Don't forget that Billy has two drawings that show two methods of doing this.
hand and wire a foam hand b
I would suggest that with the method shown in the first picture that you bend the ends of the wire over. If you don't they tend to work their way out of the foam. In fact I normally bend then wrap a bit of tape around the ends to make sure they stay securely in the foam.

Yes, one of the videos shows posable hands (With foam and wire).

Shawn I guess I need to upload better pictures........... In the first picture I usually double the wire and twist it leaving it rounded at the ends of the tips in the fingers. I use 18 gauge hardware wire then cut for pieces fold an double the wire and then join together.

And that's exactly what I do but now Shawn has me thinking that putting some tape around those ends might not be a bad idea. Darn it there I go learning stuff again!
