Sonny's "Sal Capone" Posted by Sonny on Jun 19, 2011
Hey Gang,
Here's on my latest puppets: Sal Capone

He's a full body puppet. His head and hands are latex skinned. Latex skinned is a process I have experimented with and now use on my puppet builds. It's latex, colored and applied by hand and foam brush over a fleece and similar fabric. You might say "What the ...?!" Yes as long as you are thin with coats and all fleece is covered, its gives the puppet a "skin" texture. Keep in mind the puppet gain more weight.

His body is a a torso with another technique I have taken as my own I call the Dynamite stick joints. Flexibility is great and natural. It consists of piping foam tubes and rope.I will post some pictures of this technique soon.

Thanks for looking Friends.
Puppet Hugs,
Sonny

I've actually been experimenting with foam tubes in my arms and legs as well.  Looks great!

Great, Sonny, your puppets don't seem to need any lines, they speak just with their expression.

Great character Sonny! How many layers or thick do you make the coating of latex?

Shawn, depending on the absorbing tendencies of the material your using,...if fleece, I would say maybe 2, with a 3rd "touch-up"  You dont want it too thick because of weight and mouth flexibility.

Actually its a real fun time working this process. Messy but fun. Wear some clothes you wont mind  trashing...permenantly.
