Puppets with Tattoos Posted by Pdyx on Jul 13, 2011
Hey everybody, hope you're doing great.

I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted or thought about putting a tattoo on a puppet.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of tattoos on people but it seems to be much more common nowadays.  'm planning to do work on a handful of puppets later this year (this isn't urgent) that would require tattoos.

I'm thinking maybe just straight up embroidering them on, but I haven't got any other ideas.  I thought it might be nice to see if anyone else has ever done this or has any other cool ideas.

I seem to recall someone doing it... Either on this site, or somewhere else (I have someone in mind). I have just asked them, so we'll soon find out...

You could use a iron on applique, fabric paint, or tattoo fabrics.

Found it out: Staceyrebecca. http://puppetpie.blogspot.com/

I asked her if she'd stop by and she says she's a bit busy at the moment, but to check out her flickr account as there are some pics there.

Yeah those sock monkeys are kind of what I had in mind with just stiching one on.  Good to see it done so I know what it'll look like.

I like the idea of tattoo fabric for a character who has sleeves.  Hah.  I might try that.

I'll look through her Flickr, I appreciate you tracking that down.

Thanks guys.

I searched her Flickr account and found a couple photos, in case anyone else is interested:

Puppet Tattoo

bluebird tattoo

Looks like she cut out felt and then was going to sew (or glue maybe?) it on.

I'm fairly certain it was sewn (if I recall correctly, she mentioned it via twitter)... Oh wait, at the bottom of the second pic it says 'applique and embroidery'. Also, you see the needles in the other pic.

Any sort of fabric paint...i.e. the old puff paint from the 90's...would work as well. Michael's, Jo Ann's, or any chain fabric/craft store carries it. It's cheap and flexible and you can get as detailed as you want!
