I have made mechanisms like this before and it can be pretty annoying trying to find resources and info to help, but you have to remember that someone invented this to start off with so why couldn't WE invent a new sort of mechanism?? you may stumble across something amazing!! but saying that (reiterating what Shawn and others have said) hansjurgen fettig is a great person to research on and there are some great vids on youtube of fettig style mechs, just have a little search and you'll see what i mean, there are a few with very similar mechs to the 'triple rocker' mech.
hope you are still having fun and keep us updated on the pigeon!!
Ben.

Woah, really? Not that I don't want to try to be self-sufficient at all, but I'm curious to know what mechanism you did make. Do you have any links to the videos with triple-rocker type mechanisms? I've looked everywhere and couldn't find them, and though I plan on taking Shawn Sorrell's advice and checking out my local hobby store for help building...I could totally use some visual aid or anything. Maybe I can come up with something a little simpler for me too.
And will do! Hopefully I can get started soon

Bizzo, I wonder if Mongrels is a particularly British sense of humour, I'm a first generation Australian of English parents and it makes me laugh out loud, I watched you tube for about an hour and a half, most of the clips are only a few minutes long so I saw lots of different skits.
I can see that it's not for everyone though but I loved it!

It probably is, though I do like a lot of British shows (I can tell this one has a lot of local pop-culture references too). I do like a lot of elements, but a lot of the jokes don't land much for me...probably the in-your-face-iness, some of the mean humor and the Family Guy style crazy amount of cutaways. But there are some really great jokes in it still. If you want to see some full episodes though, there actually is a YouTube channel that put up the whole first series and the pilot, so if you like what you see so far you should check that out! (It's called MongrelsBBC I think, that's the only way I can watch it here in the US)

Wow those puppets look amazing, thank you for sharing the link!

I wish I knew more about mechanisms so I could help. Seeing as you are new to it perhaps this tutorial will help? It's Swazzle's Lady Fromage tutorial by Sean Johnson. I hope it helps even in one way or another. Best of luck figuring out the mechanism though and I hope you will share pictures (and tips) once you complete it!

Here is a link to the tutorial that Gariel mentioned. http://puppet101.blogspot.com/search/label/Lady%20Fromage

Ah yes, I would forget something that important. Thank you Shawn!
Re: Rod Mechanism Help Posted by BizzoTheBat on Aug 03, 2011
Oh wow, that helps a LOT!  It even gave me an idea for how to make the puppet's tongue too! I'll try to start this week and post as I go.

Hey Bizzo, ive had a massive search for the vids i was talking about on youtube, but for some reason i couldnt find them!?!? very strange, they wherent brilliant, but definately a good inspiration point, but i did find one vid of Hansjurgen Fettig showing a couple of his mechanisms, although he is talking in another language im sure you will get the gist,

;

there is a mech at about 7:38 that is close to the triple rocker mech, hope it helps.
ill have another a search for my mech and the puppet that i have made with similar mechs to see if i can provide any visual aids for you, but i cant promise anything, they are probably all in my workshop in cupboards and storage, but im sure with a little experimantation you would find that making such mechanisms isnt too hard and just takes some trial and error!!
isnt this fun!! im thinking of making a little alien like this and possibly putting into practice a few mechs that i have come up with too.
Ben.

Oh, somebody already posted that, but thank you very much for all of that!

To everyone else, the hobby stores didn't work...The Sparks one is too far for me and the one in Reno is really just a remote controlled vehicle shop and they don't actually build there, just sell full-made models. The guy there was no real help and after he said he couldn't help me, trapped me in a half hour sales pitch to take up RC car driving as a hobby by buying one of his ridiculous models.

I think what I'm going to do is wait until school gets back and ask art and engineering professors for help and see who I can get. It should be simple, hopefully they'll be into it or tell me someone who can, and it'll be a lot more hands on. I'll make sure to post what I make here, wish me luck

I think your plan to get in contact with the art and engineering professors is a great one.  I realize there are alot of things on-line and books that can teach you but it never hurts to have someone you can "interface" with fact to face.   That was one reason I was hoping you could find a store that sold the parts for radio control stuff. Normally you find folks in places like that who love sharing and talking.
