Hello from dj Posted by djsfantasi on Aug 16, 2011
Hello!

My vocation is a computer professional, but my avocation is in the arts. I have used/built puppets off and on for various purposes ever since I was a teen (that was a while ago now). I started by modifying a puppet rabbit in a hat to do magic tricks in my magic show (the puppet did the tricks - I just "watched"). I then expanded to a foam puppet that also performed illusions...

I was involved in community/children's theater for many years, and used puppetry and costuming there as well, such as a large Fruma-Sarah ghost for a production of Fiddler on the Roof.

Later, I was a creative designer for a non-profit Haunted House and used puppetry in many of the scenes I designed. For example, imagine a cluttered basement. On a box sits a rat puppet, distracting the guests. When they look away, hundreds of rats rush into the room from the other side, running over the guests feet. Except for two "hosts" in the room, all puppets of course...

I started to design puppets for a Christmas Holiday themed walk through attraction, then decided to make them into animatronics. I first came to this site to learn how to make a custom skin for the figures (penguin).

Peter Penguin needs a skin, but you can see his skeleton here!

Very cool!  Love seeing the insides of puppets... ok it is animatronics but I a still consider them puppets.   Welcome to PandS!  Glad you have joined in the conversation.
