I owe everybody an excuse Posted by Rikka on Aug 21, 2011
Hi folks ,
sorry, I have not been on in what seems like ages: my health did this and that- nothing felt too hot. But I'm off the painkillers and it might not even be my back but my hip- that is good news.
Back to topic- I did finish a puppet, even though she did need some working out. Let's say she was more like a model. Puppets are sooo much harder than dolls! But she broke after I finished the costume: Legs and eyes.
Today I thought: well, this will definitely be it. Welllll- first of all: the new joint didn't work out. Not at all. And then the torso broke. I am a bit frustrated right now - I will have supper, finish off for tonight and restart tomorrow. It will probably take until Thursday (I have some appointments to meet and I am a slow worker- get too much into details), but then I will have the first Pics and the puppet will work. Else I take some pics of my hometown so I have ANYTHING to show...

Can't wait to see your puppet. Even if you are having issues with the puppet working you could take pictures of the problem areas and maybe we could help.

You will get things worked out............... as Shawn said we are here to help out if you need us. I hope you get to feeling better, I know how hard it is to be creative when you are not feeling well!

Guys, you are terrific. I think I figured the mechanics out (I should since I tried several things since May...), it is the crafting (since it has to be mechanically precise, not mimical- do I make sense?) that is hard on me. But as long as my legs don't fall off: Thursday it is!
And you are really, really sweet in the extreme!

So, that is how far I've come, yet. I know he is not really decent, but except for the head he is not hardened yet, so I can't cover him up properly.
I hope to get him hard and build together by Sunday. And if I get him painted and put some hair on him and something to wrap him up in, I will but in a more decent pic next week.
Sorry that it took so long- I had to find the camera cable. I hope that it is still Thursday anywhere...

WOW! He is going to be great! That is a lot of sculpting!
Re: I owe everybody an excuse Posted by Rikka on Aug 27, 2011
I love sculpting, but I like him better hollow (saving material as well as weight) and at the begining it was very hard not to change the form while sculpting details. But now I just let the FIMO sit for a while and it will harden just a bit- that helps a lot.
Thanks LJ, I was already a bit frustrated since stuff didn't work out too well- eigther mechanically or     aesthetically or both. I am still not sure if he's good enough for this site. Well, maybe as soon as he doesn't look like pinhead from hellraiser without the pins anymore...

Hope you're feeling better - that puppet is looking great. The head is very realistic. Wish I could sculpt like that!
