As a busker I can't believe I hadn't noticed this thread previously. Good stuff, if different to what I do with puppets on the street.

Welcome to PandS Buppetpusker! What type of puppets do you preform on the street?
Re: Street Performing Puppets Posted by Buppetpusker on Mar 04, 2012
I'm way into hand and rod/live hand stuff, not so much the marionettes which seem to be a fixture. At the moment I'm building an Ostrich illusion with a fake arm, the same principle as the one that was used by British comic Rod Hull with Emu. I'll be doing stuff like riding a unicycle, hat juggling, using the beak of the ostrich to hammer a nail into my nose and some slapstick stuff with the ostrich, so I'm essentially a one man duo, as well as being bright and colorful. I tend to busk circle shows with knife juggling, sleight of hand, playing the musical saw. By integrating my passion for puppetry into this I am doing something quite different from both established circle acts and walk-by street puppetry that are already commonplace.

I've never heard the term "circle show". Can you explain that? I have an idea of what it might mean but figure why not ask the expert.
Re: Street Performing Puppets Posted by Buppetpusker on Mar 04, 2012
Ok, so street performance comes in two styles really - walk by and circle show. A walk by act is playing a musical instrument, dancing, most marionette acts. A place for coins to be put is out and the audience walk by and simply place change in. In contrast, a Circle show is an act that attracts a large crowd and holds them for a period of time, generally 20-45 minutes long, and culminates in a spectacular finale. Such a show would be usually in a tourist-heavy spot with many people and no traffic. There is a crowd build, where the performer gets the attention of passers by and starts to organise a crowd in a circle around him (hence the name) to create a makeshift stage. Then there are some smaller, suspense building acts before ending with a finale (Often something like fire, a tall unicycle or a complex magic trick) and donations are placed into the perfomer's hat at the end.
