 Melvin House 2

This is Melvin.  He's my newest puppet.  I made him from an old fitted cotton bed sheet that I tore into strips.  His lips are actually the elastic from the corners of the sheet.  The eyes are custom made.  I cast them in resin, painted them on the back, hot glued them to a strip of black felt and then hot glued that to the head before wrapping the entire thing in strips.  This was actually much harder than I thought it would be as the strips couldn't just be any old which way without looking sloppy and poorly designed.  It also took a very long time.  Fortunately, I had a few Muppet movies to watch to keep me company and provide some inspiration.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with him yet.  I was thinking of doing a few monster-type puppets and put together a sort of adult-oriented monster puppet short film, but after doing a little research I see that it's already been done a few times and thus not altogether original.  Ah well... I'll think of something.

Interested in any comments or suggestions for the next one.

Nice!  How did you incorporate the backdrop into this photo?

He looks like fun.  Maybe you could do a spoof? Using a story that's not traditionally "monsterish" but incorporating the monsters in it?

Cool idea, Angel (and Melvin is a very cool puppet, too!)- maybe -since he is a mummy- his bandages could come off? Frankenstein's Monster could have headaches from the steelbolts and a vampire suffering from a "schnitzel- complex" (I often thought: humans are just prey for vampires. Stories with vampires falling in love with humans (mostly girls, I guess) have become very popular. But wouldn't that be like me falling for a schnitzel?). So all of those monsters could have a self-help group getting to be really hard monsters again? These times must be rather hard on old fashioned monsters, anyway...

This guy learned to cope with modern ways... ;-)

Angel and Rikka, this is a great idea!  Thank you.  Maybe a vegetarian vampire?  A Frankenstein monster who feels he has to act dumb to fit in but is really smart?  A mummy with Oedepus complex (get it?  He loves his mummy)?  A werewolf with allergies?  Or an alternate vamp idea might be a vampire who is vain but can't see himself in a mirror and has developed self-esteem issues?  And the psychologist is a mad scientist and wants to electric shock everyone as a cure-all.

Hmmmmm.  Great!  Now I have something to keep me occupied while I'm supposed to concentrate on work.  What a great day!

But seriously, thanks.  This has sparked a whole new round of ideas.  I'll offer credit where it's due.

Cheers.

A Veggievampie who goes by on tomato- soup? Love the idea. Also the Werewolf with allergies (might be he has to shave because he is allergic to his own fur?)! And the oedepus- complex is funny, too. The Frankenstein could be afraid to be out in the dark. Or suffering from mobbing at work- they call him Frankfurter (Sausage). This could be a whole series. Doc Wilder McWahn (Wahnsinn is madness in German, a "Wahn" could refer to an illusion) presents the new cures for rotten (or rotting) monsters... Tonight on Wilders Wahn:... Can't wait to see that. Thanks for the offering, but Angel really got me there, there the credit should go.
