Hello. I am working on a wire controlled puppet. Posted by LeelaRae on Sep 27, 2011
Hello. I am Leela, I am an artist. I have always been in love with the art of puppetry and the Renaissance Fair wire controlled shoulder puppets caught my attention a while back. I found a few people who were interested in the same on here and some of the materials they posted were very helpful. So I thought I would share my adventures making one so my mistakes and successes may help someone else along the line. I am currently working on a griffon. It is 100% hand made by me, other than materials of course.) So hello all! Message Image This is a picture of the head I just sculpted.

What tools did you use on the head to get the different textures.

I only used a needle and an exacto knife. I used the exacto knife to cut tiny notches into the clay to make it appear like a feather. I used the needle just to get fine detail in the beak and around the eyes.

Really nice work!  What medium are you sculpting in?  Can't wait to see further progress.  Oh... and Welcome to Puppets and Stuff!

Thanks so much! It's fimo clay over a paper mache joint which has a wooden ball inside it to allow for movement. The eyes are amber beads I had laying around. And thanks for the welcome! :)I will make sure to post more as I go!
