Designs for Stage Creepr Posted by EKPastor on Nov 03, 2011
Hello all! It's been a while since I've posted here, but it's time again for our annual Christmas production at Victory Worship Center. Last year I constructed a mobile wearable puppet stage that worked well. This  year we're looking at incorporating more puppets on a larger area, and I was curious as to whether or not anyone had any experience with a Muppet style creeper for lying low and being mobile on stage, concealed behind scenery. I'm not sure if I'm using the correct terms or not, but basically I'm looking for a way to be mobile with puppets behind scenery. Any suggestions, blueprints, designs, etc. would be appreciated!

How low do you need to be?  Rolling chair low, or sitting on a skateboard low?

Hmmm... Not quite sure! We haven't designed the stage decor just yet as we're on spending lockdown, so I'm not sure what will be available. I'd imagine rolling chair low, but my main concern is that our stage is carpeted and I'm worried that it would impede the small casters on rolling chairs. I've done some looking around today at wheels you put on off road kiteboards designed to go on grass and such, but I believed I'd have to make custom casters out of them. Really, I'm just trying to see what's possible while designing the show concept.

Here's a company that's full of possibilities; There's a storefront business here in Winnipeg, but you can shop online, too:

I've solved one major rolling problem with this place, but the costs can add up.
I don't think you'll be able to find a better design than a rolling chair, but you could replace the existing small wheels with something that would be better on carpet.

Thank you sir! I'll be on the lookout for a good rolling chair that I can modify, and if I see something else, I'll post it here.

We made our ourselves. A piece of plywood covered with carpet scapes or a piece of foam and fabric. Then simply attached swivel wheels like on the bottom of office chairs on the bottom. Works fine if it is a low industrial carpet you are rolling on. Also keeping the center low on the sto0l is best.  If you get to high you are going to tip over alot. In fact even on our low stools 2 - 10 inches of the floor we still some times took a flip.
