Hello everyone!! Posted by sparkino on Nov 03, 2011
Hello everyone.
My name is Alessio, I'm 31 y.o., from Italy.

I'm a ventriloquist, and a "newbie" dummy maker (in urethane, brass, etc. ...).
I signed up here because, madly in love with Jeff Dunham and Peanut, I decided to try to make Peanut for myself. Replica? Tribute? Call it what you want, I would love to be able to achieve it, because when I discovered Jeff Dunham I told myself: I must have Peanut! :D

Now I'm studying... I bought the Roly pattern from projectpuppet, and I'm trying to make some puppets for "training"... but soon I think I'll take the 3 in 1 pack of the Forma series. I have a question: in your opinion, what is the pattern most suitable for Peanut? I know that I'll have to customize it by adding various details of foam (cheeks, lips, nose, ears, eye sockets...), but which of the three patterns is better for the head?

Please, forgive my bad english...

Alessio

Hi Alessio,

Welcome to the site, there's some awesome people here!. For Peanut, if you're looking at the simple series, I'd say the pinhead would be the best, but you'd really have to customize it to get his head shape.

Hi Goochman!
Ok, but the Ovale from the Forma series seems better (more strong and resistant) than the Pinhead... I'm wrong?

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff! Your English is fine! I would agree that you'll want to use a Forma series pattern and I also think that the Ovale is probably the best starting place for building a Peanut. You might want to check out StiqPuppet's YouTube channel. As there is no fleece covering pattern for the Ovale pattern available you'll need to learn how to do that and there is an excellent tutorial on StiqPuppet's channel to help.

Also I KNOW that at least one member here (and I can't remember who) built a most excellent replica of peanut. I know I was recently checking out her gallery images of her building the puppet and getting to meet Jeff Dunahm with it. Anyone remember who that was?! Anyway, best of luck with your puppet building!

Sorry, I was wrong, I wanted to write Punto pattern, not Ovale.
So, what do you prefer? Punto or Ovale?

Don't you worry!
Unfortunately I'm a perfectionist, and I want to do the right things from the beginning!
Re: Hello everyone!! Posted by CJ Puppets on Nov 03, 2011
for Peanut? I'd start with the punto, but the problem you'll come across will be adding the cheeks and such after the fact. I would actually suggest doing a few project puppet simple series patterns, and then when you get used to working with the foam and fleece try to make your own peanut pattern.

Yeah, you're right...
Try to make your own pattern.... mh... sounds good, but difficult! :D
I even thought of making a pattern combining the top of the Punto and the bottom of the Ovale.... but I don't know where to begin to do that!

The Foam Book could be a good starting point?

Looking better... no one of the pattern is similar to the Peanut head...

it's not as bad as you think. I haven't been doing this long at all and I'm getting happier with every puppet I make. If you try a few simple series ones, then try to modify them a little, you'll get it pretty quickly.
