Hello everyone! Posted by In the dark woods on Nov 06, 2011
Hi there,

I'm a new shadow puppetry maker and performer with lots to learn!  I've previously written short animated films and have a love of storytelling without words.  I wanted to try out more "hands on" storytelling that could be done much more quickly than animation, and for me, shadow puppetry has that same magical, spellbinding feel to it that animation does.

I'm really looking forward to wandering around the site, meeting, learning from, and sharing ideas with all you lovely enthusiastic puppet folk!

Best wishes

Thank you!

Actually, I was going to say the same thing about your work, I bookmarked your site ages ago as one of those 'must come back and scour' websites. I love 'Isobel', the artwork is fantastic. How do you do it? Because the image of the moon just looks too realistic, so I'd imagine it's part graphic design and part photo?

Funny how everyone here is saying I'm the 'resident expert' on shadow puppetry - I really know very little. Glad to have another shadow puppeteer here though

EDIT: Oh for... sometimes I'm such a dope. 'inthedarkwoods', as in the Twitter handle. I can't believe I only got that after I posted.   So the others know what I'm talking about: we've met recently via Twitter.

Thank you so much everyone for the encouraging words - I'm really glad to have found such a supportive, creative network.  You are all so generous in sharing your expertise and knowledge, and Na, as resident shadow puppetry Guru, I'll be referring to your posts on a regular basis!

& I wish I could take credit for the actual animation on Isobel.  I wrote and co-produced it, but someone with much more technical skill and ability than me animated it:-)  I think it was all done digitally though.

So sorry I haven't  replied sooner. Sometimes I have a hard time keeping track of all these different conversations!

Haha, guru is a little, er a lot, generous! But thank you and please do ask or discuss. Shadow puppetry is not talked about a lot here.

Well, whoever did it, it was great. I have a great admiration for digital animation, I wish I had that particular talent.
