Is there, or could there be, an option for a WYISWYG editor, or at least an option for those of us who know html to use it? Sometimes when I want to insert an image or video, it's just as easy to grab the html, but the forum doesn't translate it into anything useful.

Hmm.... I don't really want to allow HTML in post. Just too risky. In regards to a WYSIWYG editor, I have been looking at that option recently. I just have not found one yet that I like well enough.

Let me dig around in my permission settings and see if I can maybe create a group that would allow  you or others I pick specifically to use HTML.  Like I said above I don't want to make it available to everyone but for those I trust it would be ok.

Yeah I understand you don't want everyone to be able to do it - just think of what spammers would accomplish if it existed! But for some of us, maybe?

Interestingly, my blog software allows a variety of settings for html, so you can allow basic stuff to go through, but say, prevent javascript or embedding of flash. I doubt something similar would exist for these forums, but it'd be great if it did.

That sounds fab. Thank you!!

It's not necessarily that html is a problem, it's just that allowing people to use it may mean they do nasty things, like use the site to disperse viruses or make spam. Restricting permissions to use it makes things less problematic in the long run.

Well I have the basic control like you do over the abilities of HTML.  In other words I could allow the img, a, b ect tags. The thing is that ability is not tied into the permissions. If I activate it then it is active for all registered users.  Even then I am not sure it would work for what you are thinking. You mentioned grabbing the code for an image or video. I think the restrictions set might restrict some of the img tag variables that are often added to embed code for images. I know it would not accept the video tag.

Hmm, that's interesting. I know for my blog, I can set permissions per user, as well as per group, and all for different things (ie. a setting for html, a setting for java, etc.). I guess forums are designed a different way, which makes sense because you might want to allow a blogger (the software is designed for multiple bloggers on one site) to use html, whereas generally it's not a good idea for forums.

Part of why I asked is because a while ago Flickr changed the code for embedding. They used to allow you to simply copy the image URL, but now they only allow you to grab full html or BB code. The latter works fine here, but the former doesn't. Sometimes when I grab a URL from my site, I have to remember not to use html.

Anyway, it's a minor thing and it's no big deal for me to use BB code instead.
