introduction to puppetry Posted by Artgator on Nov 28, 2011
Hello everyone, I'm Stuart, but you can call me Art... Or you can just call me Stuart, whatever makes you feel more professional. I'm no puppeteer, but I'm sure fascinated with the whole puppet concept. So, if anyone wanted to share a fact or two about puppets, it would sure mean a lot as I strive to learn more…It can be about anything

Welcome! Let's see if I can come up with an interesting fact....

But I can't think of anything that's even remotely interesting right this second.   I'll have to come back to it.

Hello Stew..Art...dude. Welcome to P&S!
Random puppet fact. Wearing a puppet on your arm (especially under lighting) can make your arm really sweat!
How's that for random...and just a bit disgusting?

As long a you take a shower more than once a week, it's okay...

Random puppet fact.... ooh, this should have been obvious from the start, as I was thinking about it only yesterday. :P

2012 is the 350th birthday of Punch and Judy!

Thank you everyone for the great introduction!
@Puppetainer: I actually do own one puppet, so I have a pretty good idea how sweaty my arm can get (My puppet’s probably going to need a washing pretty soon). The light part is new though, I’ll keep that in mind.
@Na: I actually don't know who Punch & Judy are, but gosh they’re old! I'll have to look them up later.
@Rymanofsteel: Thanks a ton Ryman, I'll have to check out that book sometime.

Really? I thought most people would have known... but basically they're the most well-known glove puppet characters. Punch is a take on the 'Pulcinella' character, an Italian jester. Judy is his wife. It's a particularly European pair, performed in streets, usually - although probably not these days - used as satire for current affairs. However, their most well-known for their somewhat un-PC antics of Punch and Judy fighting, mostly with wooden objects. (I think it's Punch that gets hit over the head, but don't quote me on that)

More in-depth explanation here:

Surprisingly, the puppets look pretty good for their age
