Wembley Fraggle Help Posted by BoxGhost on Dec 16, 2011
Hi. Some of you may remember me, I was around these forums a few years ago until I got sick and had to stop puppet making for a little while.

Anyway, things have improved and I am back, and still, after 3 years, trying to perfect my wembley fraggle puppet that I'm making.

I was actually wondering if anyone could possibly help me with the pattern for the head. I've tried many things, and nothing is seeming to work.

Here is an album with some reference shots that I got from puppets I found online and the fraggle rock dvds:

Here is my album detailing my progress, which has pretty much been one failure after another:

I am looking to make the puppet about the size of the project puppet simple series puppets.

This has been a very frustrating journey for me, because my mind doesn't seem to be the type that can work in foam shapes. I've bought a bunch of foam books trying to learn how things fit together, but ... it just doesn't work for some reason. I feel like I'm too much of a right brained person or something.

anyway, if there is any way humanly possible that someone can help me generate a pattern for the foam, the mouthplate and the head, I would be eternally grateful. I pretty much know how to do everything else but that.

Thank you all in advance. ^_^

So are you trying now to make the long nosed one?
Re: Wembley Fraggle Help Posted by BoxGhost on Dec 20, 2011
Yes, the long nosed yellowish green one. And I've been working on head patterns for the foam and felt for literally 2 years and just cannot get it right.

This is one someone else made of Wembley:

i'm not sure if you have a copy of this old pattern that has been on the internet for a long time... maybe it will help

Yeah, I've got that one. ^__^ That's actually the one I modified (along with the glorified sock puppet) to do the other fraggles that I did.

Wembley is not on that one and I'm just having one holy heck of a time getting the foam correct and modifying the head.... I have made a foam that sort of works, but making the mouth plate has been quite a challenge. I think I need to start over from scratch, though. I could post some of my failed attempts at patterns again if you guys would like to see them. I'm really terrible at this. :P

Yes that would help! I have so much going on for the holidays I'm not sure how much help I can be until after Christmas.

That's okay, Billy! I have all the time in the world. I'm going to go and dig through my patterns and see if I can get them online.

This was probably the closest I got, but this one was stuffed with polyfill and didn't have a foam skeleton to it. Everything went to heck when I tried to make the foam skull:

I believe this is the pattern that yielded that one, but I don't 100 percent remember:

I can't find the pattern for the mouth plate I used for that one, though. It might have just been the one from the glorified sock puppet, not sure.

Then there was this:

That was from one of the fraggle videos. A woman helped me make a pattern for the foam for that, but I couldn't get it to fit inside of my felt head thingy.

I'm not sure how to attach a pdf, but I have a pdf of that pattern.

I'm not sure I understand.  Are you making the fabric cover before the foam structure?  This would be backward from the way I do it.  If I'm making my own pattern, I make the pattern and foam, then use a cut up old t-shirt and lay/pin/cut it to fit the foam.  Then I use it to make my fabric pattern and add seam allowance. (I don't sew anything by hand unless absolutely necessary!!)

I think I got the idea from this:

Yeah, I'm sure it is backwards. See, I don't understand how to make patterns at all. This is why I'm failing so badly. I just know how to modify old patterns in adobe illustrator, but when it comes to the foam structure, I'm completely clueless.
