Happy New Year Posted by Rikka on Dec 31, 2011
I stumbled across this and I have to say: what a pity that it was never aired in North America. I grew up with this.

Wonder if it would make a nice puppet show... with marionettes, maybe?

Haha! That's my new year's eve tradition: every year one of our TV stations puts that on (and The Drummer of Ravel's Bolero, which is another great one) and I just *have* to watch it.
In fact, I watched it about 6 hours ago. It's 2am here in Oz... happy new year!

well, happy New Year to you, Na! We will probably watch it tonight (it 16:29 or half past four pm over here)- it is sent by just about any local station in Germany, via cable I could watch it at least three times (but I will not. Once a year, for Silvester (New Years Eve), that is okay). I even had my laughs when I was little and I didn't get one word of it.

Funny, it never occurred to me that anyone in any other country would watch it. The station it's on here is the 'multicultural' one, which means they often have pretty obscure stuff featured. I guess though a short film like that ages well
I don't know what I enjoy more, the servant getting better at walking as the night goes on, the fact that the actress doesn't lose her focus one bit (I'd be laughing by the end and unable to keep a straight face), or the oddness of the live audience laughing along.
Enjoy your night! The fireworks are still going here even at 2.30am.

Anyone who can't see it on TV- get it, it is a great show. As far as I know it is a hit in Skandinavia, the German part of Switzerland, Austria and South Africa. And it was recorded in Hamburg, too! Do you get the intro or do they skip it since it is just a German guy telling Germans who don't speak English the most vital parts? (What does "same procedure as last year?" and "same procedure as every year" mean, that the four friends are dead and the last of them died 25 years ago... that sort of stuff.) Have fun. It got dark here and the boom starts...
