Whats my Puppet Worth???? Posted by Breise619 on Dec 31, 2011
Hi I'm looking for some help. I was looking around online of where I should go to ask what my puppet is worth and came upon this website. So whats my puppet worth? Its from "Pelham Puppets" on the box it says "Wicked Witch"

This website gives a little info on it saying "England, circa 1955" but idk if that means when it was made or something else.

And they want you to pay to be able to see the price of it :/
Mine looks just like this one with a little bit more wear.

The puppet is worth only what a collector will pay for it but maybe you can get a idea from Ebay

Just shooting a question: Do you think Ebay would sell better than etsy?
Re: Whats my Puppet Worth???? Posted by Na on Dec 31, 2011
Etsy is for handcrafted items.

There's actually a few books on Pelham puppets, one of them is a collector's guide book with suggested prices I think. It's a while since I looked up info on it, so I could be wrong.

There's also quite a few online collector's groups for them, and I've got them listed here:

David Leech is the official historian, his website is here:
http://www.traditionalpuppets.co.uk/
(I couldn't get it to load, maybe it's down and will be back up later)
But I don't think he offers a pricing service.

I do think though that you're best bet is to either get some advice via the collector's groups or just try Ebay. 'Worth' is mostly dependent on the quality of the item and the collector's interest (one man's trash, etc). Have you considered getting it appraised? Some collectible shops offer a service like that, some even do it for free.

You could probably try it on Etsy as well because it's both for handcrafted items and "vintage" items and being from 1955 I'd say that qualifies. The advantage with Etsy is that you set the price and it's not so much up for auction. Of course you can control what you'll accept on Ebay as well with reserve pricing etc.

That's true, I forgot about vintage stuff on Etsy.

And I thought that ebay was just for people who would hunt bargains while etsy is more for collectors, so I figured etsy would fetch more? But I have no experience whatsoever. I'd like your opinon, though.
Re: Whats my Puppet Worth???? Posted by Na on Jan 01, 2012
Mostly if we're talking 'vintage' Etsy would be more for jewellery, clothing, etc. Antiques are often there, but from my reasonably short browsing as a customer I've mostly seen antique furniture/knick knacks. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of Pelham puppets listed on Ebay.

Having said that, David Leech (mentioned in my previous comment) also is on Etsy.

He has some Pelhams listed for about $50USD

It's just a personal impression, but I think more collectors will be on Ebay.
