Arms and legs Posted by RichVStone on Jan 24, 2012
Ok so I started a puppet and am using foam for the arms and legs. Had the right shape when I pinned ity together however after I glued the pieces they no longer held their round shape and went flat...anyone else have that happen ands know yup fox it? Our have sample foam arm and leg patterns I can have to modify from?

Why type of foam are you using? How thick? If there's an open center, what about filling them with polyfill?
Re: Arms and legs Posted by RichVStone on Jan 24, 2012
Half inch green foam.I can try to poly fill it but was hoping for better patterns I think thef problem is the darts in the construction

Can you take pictures and post? I prefer poly fil arms and legs, but have done both. Never had a problem with them going flat. I usually just glue the seam together and slide into the fabric leg or arm.

I will do so tonight and post a video

I use a rectangular pieces and curve them together to make a tube. Never had them 'go flat', except when stored incorrectly. Once the glue is dried and pins removed, the shape is held.
I don't have leg patterns, but I do have arm patterns...

There were leg patterns somewhere here I thought... maybe I'm just thinking of feet?

What shape are you cutting out from the foam? It looks also like you're gluing the ends together, not just the sides? (Ie. an oddly shaped ball, rather than a tube)

I must admit that i have no idea what kind of pattern you are using to create your arms, could it be that you are trying to make muscly arms like poppeye?? when making foam arms, i usually either make long rectangle that i glue the long edges together to make a tube, or i make elongated lemon shapes that have straight ends, then i glue them together at the edges to make shapely arms that resemble your own a little more closely.
Maybe you could post a picture of the pattern you have used so that we can better advise you on what route to take or how to change the pattern to create a better shape!!
