P.S.  I think maybe the eyes should be just a bit closer together. Not much though.

In regards to sewing things on after you have the fur in...  Some times it is easier to use a curved needle to do this. Another nice type of needle to have is a tapestry or teddy bear needle. They are just really long needles. Some or even 6 to 8 inches long.

The trick with sewing on after you have the foam in the head is to catch just the fabric itself and not get the foam underneath. Have a look at the third link I posted above. In it you'll see two embedded videos that Daryl did about sewing on feathers for hair.  That would be the same concept you would use for sewing on yarn that you have wefted since in essence he is using wefted feathers.

WOW! Wefting overload! I have done a bit of wefting and did it without all these wonderful resources! When will I learn to turn to my Puppets and Stuff buddies for help FIRST?! In any case I'm now going to build that hair loom that Billy has instructions for. Much better than my rather crude creation.

It is quite possible that the technique I'm going to reference has already been covered as I've only had about an hour to go through the WEALTH of material Shawn and Billy have put together but just in case here is an alternate method for hand sewing when wefting. You're actually crocheting the seam. I've used this several times especially for some of the specialty yarns that I've used for hair that are basically the thickness of thread so more difficult to machine sew.

Again I'm completely astounded at what a terrific place Puppets and Stuff is! You guys ROCK!!

OK, so maybe I missed it, but I can't find where you tell us what kind of fabric you are using.  Did you get it online, etc.?
Thanks!

Hi again Eric! It looks from the photos like you've sewn the body of your puppet using a sewing machine - correct me if I'm wrong. If this is the case, then you're all set. Wefting is really simple if you follow the instructions Shawn has linked. Machine sewn, it really only takes half an hour to do (a little more if you're a perfectionist  ) and vualah! hot glue it to your puppet and you have a most fabulous set of locks!

And Billy, I might be more sentimental than some and ask way too many questions, but I wouldn't be without P&S! Such a massive wealth of knowledge! Oh, and I added you on Facebook.... I would love to know what ideas people sent you for new projects! Great idea!
Re: New girl puppet project Posted by Gail on Feb 04, 2012
I had trouble with yarn cut edges fraying over time.  Fray Check applied lightly with a pin can help with that or I prefer to loop the yard so that all cut edges are back on the sewn side. I like to sew yarn or other hair to light weight cap knit so then I only tack stitch the cap in a few places to add to head. That way I can rip off the little girls pigtails and make her a bald grandpa as needed.  I seldom use yarn anymore as my puppets have to work a long time and it does not hold up as good as fake fur for my needs.
