Lizzie, i think i hear a musical number coming on, its called 'the lady who loved a monster' lol!!!

just a side note tho, velux is good for certain projects, and at one point they where offering it as a substitute for antron, but it does seem to wear a little quicker than other fabrics, so experimentation is key!!

I use thread of same color to sew yarn.
"Hard use" is a lot of teenage puppeteers who play around with the puppets inbetween shows and then put them away roughly. We started seeing bare patches after about 2 years. Rubbing the Velox will rub off the outer fuzz and leave bare patches.  It was not related to the movement of the puppet so if you minimize touching the outside it will probably last longer.  There are a lot more good fleece fabrics around now days that are good for puppets and they have so many colors, I won't use Velox again. I happened into a fabric store that was going out of business and I bought several yards of solid colors of fleece for cheap. It looks to me like the Velox may be glued together to thin foam base rather than woven so as the foam breaks down with age it comes apart. The foam base gives it more body than thinner fabric I used it as support with fabric over it for animal ears. But I can't afford to have it gumming up my sewing machine anymore. All materials have a life span, keep your pattern and notes so you can recreate your puppet when it ages.

Like Snail said at the end of his post, and I wanted to restate it, all materials have a life span.  He mentioned that they got about 2 years use out of the Vellux fabric puppets.  In my opinion that is not to bad in fact for puppets used regularly I would think you would want to plan to re-make them about every two to three years anyway.

I'm a girl snail, but I do perform with boy puppets. We got a back up puppet when we saw that one important character was showing wear and found that it was useful for quick magical costume changes to have a doppelganger puppet who already had the costume on. Also helps the other puppet last longer to share stage time.

Opps! Sorry about that. See if you would fill out the Gender part of your profile I would have a pretty little pink symbol to remind me.
