New Puppeteer/Learning Ventriloquist here!

Re: Hi Posted by Shawn on Jan 27, 2012
Welcome to Puppets and Stuff!  Make yourself at home. We are pretty friendly so don't be shy if you have questions. I am not a ventriloquist but we do have quite a few here that are. I am sure they will be along and introduce themselves in time.

Hi Handsome! And good night...

Hi, I'm a ventriloquist myself and I'm making my first puppet to use in my act. I decided on the friendlier muppet style puppet, instead of the hard figure, which some may find scarier than soft puppets. So, how are you learning vent and do you belong to any ventriloquist sites?
Re: Hi Posted by HandsomeGroundHog on Jan 28, 2012
Well, so far I'm just learning online on many websites I've found via google. I dont even have a puppet yet! (although I too prefer the softer kind).

As for ventriloquist sites I'm apart of...I've yet to find any, if you could point me in the direction of some that'd be great lol.

http://ventdj.blogspot.com/ is run by Clinton Detweiler from Maher Studios. He offers The Maher Ventriloquism Course that is the best way to learn by far and he's is there if you have questions. http://www.axtell.com/ is a puppet maker and offers an online tutorial for ventriloquism. http://www.brownielocks.com/ventriloquism.html also an online article, she's also a Maher graduate, but no longer performs. http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Idiots-Guide-Ventriloquism/dp/1615640002/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1327758665&sr=1-1 is also an excellent book by Taylor Mason, who uses small, soft puppets and travels with the Gaithers. http://www.taylormason.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 is Taylor's site with some of his videos.

Welcome!

I thought I might post these, I don't know if you've already seen them, but by far these sites have the best info about ventriloquism.

Vent Haven
http://www.venthaven.com/
They have a lot of good free articles and info there.
Ventriloquist Central
http://ventriloquistcentral.com/
Same thing
Online book for making a dummy (free)
http://www.puppetsandprops.com/DummyBookContents.html
Step-by-step diary of making a dummy
http://www.alstevens.com/ventriloquism/fred.html

I have a few more, but mostly they're blogs on repairing dummies.
