information on a puppet Posted by bbyrd on Feb 05, 2012
hi guys.. not sure if anyone can help me here... recently a friend gave me an Abraham Lincoln puppet. I'm just trying to find out more information on it since I only have the head. who may have made it, if i could track down other pieces to it.. etc. or maybe that's all there was to it? here is a photo of it: http://instagr.am/p/gTNeS/

thanks, and sorry if I've wasted anyone's time!

I have no idea who made this, but it is an insanely cool looking puppet head, very cool, it looks alot like a 'spitting image' puppet but appears to be made from foam rather than latex. it would be great to see it in action some time.

Don't be so concerned with wasting people's time, this the kind of thing people on here thrive on! In the meantime I'll waste your time with no answer to your question and just say what an amazing piece of work that is! Wow.
Scoob
P.S. sorry...

I didn't seem to find any images that would connect it to spitting image puppets but I'll keep looking. BTW welcome to Puppets and Stuff.

Hmm... I wasn't able to find any hint either.  I did post a message over at Puppet Hub for you though. http://www.puppethub.com/forum/topics/anyone-recognize-this-puppet  There are quite a few collectors over there so perhaps one of them might recognize it. Can you give us any more information yourself.  For example, where are you located? Is it in the states or are you overseas? Did your friend say where they found the puppet head?  These might help us narrow things down some.

Hi - Any idea of the age of the head? It kind of reminds me of the old DC Follies as well.....regardless, beautiful piece!
Re: information on a puppet Posted by bbyrd on Feb 05, 2012
thanks for all of your help! i am in nashville, tennessee. it had been laying around the office for years, left behind by someone. we work for CMT/MTV networks, so maybe it was picked up at an event? i really have no idea. thats about all i know its made of foam, and i'm guessing it's from the 80's/early 90's, but i could be wrong. i don't know anything at all about puppets, but it's so interesting that i wanted to try to find out more about it and if it had a body at some point, etc.

thanks again for your help!

The puppets for D.C. Follies where made but Krofft studios (i.e. Sid and Marty Krofft but I can't find any confirmation that it is one of their creations.  From what I have found though I think we may be on the right track.

It is kind of sad that results for "President Puppet" on Google have very little to do with Puppetry.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to say when making a puppet you should sew in a tag, autograph the inside of the head so your puppets will be recognized in the future. Style alone is not enough to identify a puppet. I got to say this one has me stumped but I'm no less intrigued to find a answer... I'll keep looking!
