So these patterns don't also include the foam or fabric covering?
I'm sure the pattern is more than worth it, but for now, it's a bit out of my price range So I'll need to try it on my own.
So, in the case of this puppet, the foam in the head wouldn't be a solid block, but more of a skull?

Patterns generally don't come with materials - for that you need to look for puppet making kits. Few people sell kits though.
Both block and sheet foam can be used, though with Project Puppet, my patterns, or The Foam Book, sheet foam is generally used. (Easier to cut and glue together pieces than to carve a shape I guess)
Why don't you take one of the free videos/patterns available and modify it instead? It will be cheaper and since you'll need to modify any bought pattern anyway, it should be just as useful.

Na is correct that there are some free patterns out there that you could look at and perhaps modify to fit your needs. Billy has a couple of them in his gallery album.

Awsome! Thanks Billy!
Right now my biggest hurdle to get over is finding the foam. I'd like to try and find some at a local store. I'm basically looking for 1/2" Polyfoam, correct?

I would start with half inch until you get use to working with foam. I keep all different sizes of foam from 1/16" to 4"..............A block of foam used in carving a head is also a option. You will learn this as you go, just start with basics and work from there.

I agree with Billy. The 1/2" polyfoam is a good place to start. I was going to recommend checking out JoAnn Fabrics. I've purchased foam there in the past that looked like this.
http://www.joann.com/heavy-duty-foam-slab-1-2-x-24-x-90-/zprd_11178084a/
But I see by their website that pretty much all of their polyfoam is online only now.
I guess I would recommend calling around to any fabric or craft stores in your area to see if they carry it. It's getting harder to find in stores though.

Hey everyone. Sorry for the lack of updates. I finally asked my mother-in-law if she had any materials, and she actually had everything I needed for a simple dog puppet, which I'm starting out with. Hopefully I'll be getting started soon

I guess things need time to ripen! I have a hard time with that, too!
