Puppet supplies at a glance Posted by Billy D. Fuller on Feb 15, 2012
I thought I would start a thread where folks could add links of suppliers that you can find good deals. I'll start the ball rolling here. This place has a bit of everything.

I just go to Hobby lobby. But I would love to know if anyone has a place I can buy faux fur online for a decent price. None of the fabric stores around me carry any shag furs and I ordered from a few places online but $25 to $30 a yard is a bit too much to spend on just one yard.

Yes! Cool idea for a topic.

i've ordered faux furs from Mendels and Distinctive Fabrics. Both have been exceptional quality. (I hesitate to say, but I've learned if you pay less it's probably not going to be as good quality or realistic feeling/looking.)

Arm rods, doll joints, antron fleece and monster eyes...i order from Julie at Out of the Box Puppets.

Foam, boas and feathers at local craft stores.

(( By the way, i'm looking to order some "realistic" looking eyeballs- possibly glass. Think the look of the eyes on the "Dinosaurs" show- only they'll be about 28mm. If you have a source, message me! ))

AWS, Do you have a fabric store in  your area like JoAnne's or Hancock Fabrics?  You should find a better selection of furs there.

I agree with Shawn. I've had success at both the fabric stores he mentioned, though not if you're looking for a long pile fur. But if you're looking for a shorter pile fur the fabric stores often have some options. In fact last time I found a nice sized piece in the remnants for cheap!

Anything from the UK users on here?

I use www.efoam.co.uk for my foam supplies...

Anyone else got anything useful?

Yeah I;m a regular at Joann's and they are great but their fur selection is pretty much just natural colors like black, white, and brown or animal prints. They had some blue fur similar to what Gonzo is made from but they aren't sure if they are getting anymore in. I wish our Walmart still carried fabric because they used to have great fur selections for around $8 a yard.

Often the secret to finding wild furs is "November".  Do I have you wondering?   November comes after October which is Halloween season and stores will often get in more exotic fabrics of all kinds of kids costumes. Then in November or December they often put the left overs on sale.
