Wood suppliers Posted by mousemat on Feb 19, 2012
Hi to all,
I want to start my first puppet project that I intend to do it mainly in carved wood.  I believe that Lime wood is what is recommended, though if you know otherwise please let me know.  I live in the northeast of England (someone has too) and I was wondering if anyone knows of places where I could either go to personally to purchase the wood or, alternatively, order over the internet.
Regards,
mousemat

mousemat,
Do you have any cabinet or woodworker stores in your area?  I know that also at least in the US that some of the hobby stores have a limited selection. We do have some UK members so hopefully they will be along soon and can perhaps give you some more concrete info.

Welcome to PandS!

I did find one internet supplier located in Oxford that ships. http://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Hardwoods/Carving_Timber/carving_timber.htmlhttp://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Hardwoods/Carving_Timber/carving_timber.html They currently show that they are out of stock but at least it is a start.

Here is another internet supplier. http://www.ockenden-timber.co.uk/

Here is a thread at the Woodworkers forum that has some other options in the reply.  http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/f33/can-buy-basswood-uk-29537/

Basswood is what they call it here in the US but from what I've read Lindenwood (Lime) is the same thing.

You might want to ask Tony Sinnett (I couldn't access his home page, but here's his twitter):
https://twitter.com/tonysinnett

He's a UK marionette maker and likely to have some good sources for wood: he also makes and sells furniture and other carvings too.

PS. Welcome!

Sometimes my fire fox does that way and they are usually wanting me to upgrade the present version of fire fox to the newer one.
