Yeah the music is ace - I'm so glad I discovered it. I'm working on a storyboard/script at the moment, and have so great ideas so far. It's going to be a little more complicated than I thought, but still possible. Exciting stuff!

It will be great!

I have written up a basic plotline (very basic) of my ideas. It's pretty short on action, but I'm not too worried about it, as I don't know how long various things will actually take and I can always add in more action if necessary.

I've uploaded my script here:
http://puppetsinmelbourne.com.au/media/we%20are%20all%20connected%20pc.pdf

Note the lyrics are on the left-hand side of the script in purple, the actions are on the right-hand side, roughly matching where in the song they should occur. I know the script won't entirely evoke the imagery of what I plan, as I've 'sanitised' it a little to avoid revealing my super-secret effect. But the general idea is still there.

I'd love some feedback, I'm worried the action doesn't quite fit the lyrics...

You have got me excited to see this!  There are a few things I am not sure about but like you mention we don't yet know about your "secret weapon" so they may not be valid.

Visually I am not sure that the speck in the mans head well make sense to people. I would almost like to see if there was a way that the man could turn into a speck.

What does the bird symbolize? The lyrics always mention "we" so it makes more sense to me to stay with the image of a person as opposed to a bird.  It may be your trying to show that the same molecules that make up man also make up animal and other things in nature.

Well, you have to remember based on my previous showings of the puppet prototype I've been working on that there is a 'hole' in the puppet's head. The hole is like a thought bubble, a place where symbols or words can appear. It doesn't necessarily have to make sense that that's what it is.

To elucidate - and this isn't what the super secret effect is - the speck will be on a sort of cable-control, imagine like a telescopic wire with the speck on one end. Hidden inside the outer tube are more specks, and at the handle end I press something or push the inner tube and out 'explodes' more specks. In this way, the bird itself is also made of specks... I hope that makes sense, I know what I have in mind but describing it is hard. But yes, the idea is that all things are created from specks. So the galaxies will also be specks as well.

I like the idea of turning the man into a speck... not sure how doable it is. I'm trying to avoid too complicated stuff because I'll only have myself to perform this. I'll have a think about it, because you're right that would work better... maybe if he turns into a speck, then that turns into the bird. Hmmm....

Thinking about this only a little...

It seems unlikely to make the man turn into a speck all that easily. There are two ways: swap the puppet out for a version which is made of specks; or disappear the puppet for the speck itself. I'm not a fan of the latter, but the former would only work well if I do what was planned for the bird... that is, to have the man walk behind the landscape, as a 'normal' puppet, and appear again from the other side as one made up by specks. Then from there it's simply a matter of swapping out the speck-man for the speck-bird.

What do you think?

That sounds really cool.  When I read Sagans line about laws of nature just after the tree it made me think of Newtons apple falling from the tree.  I like the exploding, can't imagine how you will do that, very interesting.

Thanks Snail. As I (tried to) explain above, it's sort of like a cable-control thing. Imagine lots of little pieces of coloured plastic, all attached to individual wires. The other ends of the wires are inserted into a tube; all one has to do is push the ends of the wires out of the tube and it 'explodes'. ... Theoretically at any rate

Because the lighting I'll be using won't pick up on the rods themselves, it will appear as though the puppets are moving about by themselves, and so the 'specks' will just seem as though they're coming from nowhere. Ie. the video below you can't see the rods. I'm trying as much as possible to organise it all so I can work from behind - just my personal preference - but I may end up having to work stuff from below.

Funny you mention the apple. I've just updated the script to include Shawn's suggestion, and even though there's a tree in the script I have ended up using a flower instead/as well as. (See file linked in previous post) Hopefully the new improved script is better...

Last night I just saw a new report that kind of relates to what you are trying to do here.  Alan Alda from "Mash" fame is actually really into Science.  The report mentioned two things.  One is that he is teaching science teachers how to "act" and the other is that he is holding a contest where the scientist or teachers must explain a flame and the entries will be judged by eleven year old students.  Here are some links on the subject

Here is the link to the news report I saw.  Hope they don't block it in Australia.

I see what you are doing as relating to what he wants to do because you are taking science and making it interesting and entertaining.

Haha, what a great idea. Sometimes I thought that language teacher were pretty good at communicating, but didn't know what they were talking about. While science teachers really knew what they were talking about, but they didn't always find a way to put this information in other peoples brains...
