Mr Turnip Posted by mousemat on Feb 22, 2012
I recently inherited a Mr Turnip puppet.  He's in great condition but the strings are in a right mess.  I have had to loosen some of them but I don't know how to put them back in the correct places.  Any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance,
mousemat

Make a note of which string attaches to what (on both the control and the puppet itself). Then when it comes to untangle everything you know exactly where they were in the first place.

Hi Na,
Unfortunately they were so badly tangled that this was not an option at the time.  I have managed to keep some of them still attached but that is all.
Cheers,

We have members here that are experts at this...... if you could post some pictures of the strings in questions they could give you some instructions. If you are not wanting to learn the technique then I would let someone restring it for you.

I am not familiar with this puppet but as Billy said above if you post some pictures of the puppet and the controller I can let you know where to connect things specifically.

I do know this is a Pelham puppet. Most of them are pretty simple in stringing. Can you pick out the control from this page? http://www.pelhampuppedia.com/stayincontrol.htm

As a rule puppets like this have a total of 7 strings. The main supporting string is from the head up to the the center hole in the control. Hands are attached to the front. Legs are attached to the right and left ends of the cross piece and then the back or butt string is attached to the back of the control.

There are actually a few people out there who offer repairs for Pelham puppets. Off the top of my head though I can only think of one in the US....

How do I go about uploading a photo please?

By the way this is not a Pelham puppet. Not sure of the make but it must be from a BBC TV programme going back to when I was still a glint in my Dad's eye.
thanks,

To upload a photo first click on Gallery at the top of the page. Next click on the "Your Album" button toward the top of the right column under the Ad. Next look for "Add Items" in the top left Gallery box.  That gets you to the upload page for your Gallery Album.   I know it is a bit of a long way around... sorry. Once you upload an image there should be a small camera icon under your post count to the left of your post like you see on other folks post. We can click on that to see the photos you upload.

Alternatively you can insert any of your uploaded images into a post by using the Gallery Image button below the post box. It opens a pop up screen where you can navigate to your User Album via the Subalbums drop down.  Again a bit of work but it gets you there and gives us more control over things.
