Hi everyone Posted by squirrely on Feb 28, 2012
First I have to type: I am new to Puppetry. I've been studying all today. Been watching and reading Puppetry. I really want to do Puppetry. But I know it's going to be HARD! The puppets I am going to get next month are Marionettes. One human, one animal. I have books on hold from the library to read. I am going to practice and when ready...I'll do my best. Which Puppet Masters do Marionettes? Any advice for this grasshopper? Take care.

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff Squirrely. Take your time and you will do fine. Committing to puppetry is the hardest part I think, the rest is just fun. If we can be of help just let us know. Meanwhile make yourself right at home.

Welcome! There are a couple of good sites for marionettes out there, my favourite being Tony Sinnett's. http://marionette-maker.blogspot.com/
But there are plenty of others too. One day when I have all my website bookmarks sorted I'll be able to find them all...
Here's a couple more you may/not have seen:
http://www.mandalaymarionettes.com/aboutpuppetsmain2.html
http://www.hubermarionettes.com/ (the guy who did Being John Malkovich)
http://www.thepuppetstudio.com/W.marionette.control.html
http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2006/06/03/the-secrets-of-making-marionettes/ (there's more on that site, so just search for them)

http://chandrasboxofstars.typepad.com/chandras_box_of_stars/2008/06/marionette-tuto.html
http://www.cashoremarionettes.com/

Some of the above are performer websites, some are tutorials (that have yet to be added to my below list)
And some more freebies listed here on my site:

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff squirrely. Marionettes are my favorite style of puppetry and where I started when I first got into puppetry. You are going about it right by reading up and learning everything you can. Once you have your puppets just start practicing with them in front of a mirror. Don't "try" to hard just let it flow.
So where are you getting your marionettes from?

While I have a passion for all of puppetry and hope someday to turn more of my creative energies towards marionettes right now I'm working with hand and rod puppets. Still I want to welcome you to Puppets and Stuff! Hard work? Maybe, but when it's something you love it's the kind of work that gets you out of bed in the morning and keeps you up late at night! Welcome and enjoy your journey!
