Need Help - Not my gifting Posted by Out of the Box Puppets on Feb 29, 2012
Okay...here's the thing.  I am coordinating the building of several musical instrument props for a client.  They will be air brushed foam.  One of the instruments is an electric keyboard.  Normally the back of a keyboard would have the manufacturers name; KORG, Casio, Yamaha etc.  The client would like something else written on the back of the piano prop such as a clever rendition of an actual manufacturer or something that might catch the audience's eye once they settle into the performance.  That's were you come in.  This is not my gifting to say the least. Word or words need to be funny, family friendly and you get extra points if it is biblical in nature okay no extra points, but it would be great.  Keep in mind the full surface area might only be 18" these are puppet size instruments.

I thought I'd make this a game.  If we choose your suggestion you will get $1 off your next purchase of Antron or a free set of puppet eyes (shipping not included), so if you've been saving up to purchase some supplies then here's your chance to help me out and save a little.

Need suggestions by March 9th.  I will PM the winner as well as post the winner on this post.

Like "Hosanna" instead of "Yamaha"?

Why not spell KORG, Casio, Yamaha etc. but spell it backwards Yamaha/Ahamay,Casio/Oisac,Korg/Groc. While I could not find a definition of the backwards Yamaha and Casio. I did find "Grok" backwards "Korg" and thought it was a interesting definition.

How about...
Yahweh for Yamaha
Cardo for Casio (a road or thoroughfare in a Roman town)
Kanon for Korg (Its English derivative is canon in reference to the recognized books of the Bible)

Or for funny you could go with...
For Casio
Cardio
Cameo
Casino

For Korg
Kong
Kord
Grok (As in I Grok Spock! Sorry, my geek is showing again)

For Yamaha
Yourmama (Ya, I know you really couldn't use that but it was too funny to leave out)
Yeahmama (a more family friendly version)
Yourmaha (as in "You're my ha" I know it's a stretch)
Mahnamahna (my favorite for Yamaha for obvious reasons)

Well, that's all I've got for now. Whatever you decide to go with I think the main thing is trying to keep the same first letter as the brand you're "borrowing", roughly the same number of letters and a very similar typeface. We're used to seeing those familiar brands almost more as graphic elements rather than the actual words they include. So the general shape and appearance are what really matter I think.

I've enjoyed all of the suggestions so far. Isn't it great to have a pool of people to go to when you need some brainstorming?! I LOVE Puppets & Stuff!

I would tend to go with a recognized name, but just change one letter. Thus KORG becomes KORK, Yamaha becomes Yumaha and Casio is now Capio That way a quick glance would expect the company name, but you won't have a copyright problem.

I knew this was the right place to ask.

Puppetainer you crack me up.  I just knew this was in your skill set.

Keep them coming. Moving the deadline up, so I'll be presenting the ideas to the client on Wed. March 7th.

Love all the ideas so far, some ring truer than others.  I think simple word association will work best as suggested, so the audience if not familiar with instrument brands will pick up on the play on words.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this, caught bronchitis and just trying to keep up with business.  Still fighting it, but God is good. Haven't missed a deadline yet.

Puppetainer is the winner.  The client choose Yehweh for the back of the piano.

What does he win: $1 off a yard of Antron or a free set of eyes(not including shipping), any style we sell.

Thanks everyone!
