How could you NOT be involved with puppets when you're "1 hour north of Wagga Wagga"? Is that anywhere near Wocka Wocka?

Oh that's too funny! I've been there myself and never thought of that pun before

Careful! I'm from Wagga Wagga! My folks are still there...

Awesome place to be Debra!

Hi puppetainer. I seriously doubt that Wagga is anywhere near Wocka Wocka (only if you have a speech impediment!)Wagga Wagga is an indigenous name which means something like "the home of many crows." We locals all just call it Wagga. Debra C.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Wagga-we love it. Hey Lizzie-were your family affected by the floods? Debra C.

Well, but I have to admit that this doesn't get out of my brain anymore...

I guess there are funny names in any language. I had the hardest time pronouncing Musquadobid and Kejimkujik (I lived by Ponhook lake)...
In German there is Bad Kissingen (Bavaria)
There is an Autrian Montain by the name of Wank
Also, there is an Austrian Town called Fucking
There is a town called Grub (I think in Bavaria)
(those I took from a chat, I'm not sure if you'd find much fun in towns like Vögelsen, Poppenbüttel or Hodenhagen)
And my host sister had a hilarious time on the Autobahn- Exits are called Ausfahrt.
Re: new website Posted by Lizzies Lair on Mar 27, 2012
Hi Debra, my parents were unaffected. Although they had a number of evacuees staying at their house along with a collection of their respective pets! My Mum teaches at one of the High Schools that were deemed evacuation centres so spent a lot of time supporting evacuees. It's a horrible thing to have happen but really confirms the awesomeness of communities. Were you affected at all?

And Rikka, loved the link! And the names! Awesome!
Re: new website Posted by Rikka on Mar 27, 2012
Good to hear that your folks are alright and I hope Debra, you and your folks are fine, too. I never heard of floods in Australia, but unless there is a bushfire threatening to consume something about as big as Sidney (most people wouldn't even know the name of Canberra) Australia is just too far away.
I am glad you liked the link and the names (they are not the same in German, I should add... Bavaria is know to be very catholic and they have all the Wankers (Wank being a town in Bavaria, too.) I didn't know what was so funny about the maiden name of Peggy Bundy for the longest time. Slang doesn't get translated too often... )

Glad to hear that all are well regarding the flooding!

As for funny names, I certainly hope I didn't offend. I just love language and any comedic opportunities it presents! Here in Wisconsin we have no shortage of amusing names. Our settlers borrowed many words from our indigenous people to name their towns. Such as:
Kewaskum, Kickapoo, Kinnickinnic, Waunakee, Taycheedah, Mukwonago, Oconomowoc, and Mazomanie to name a few!

Also it is fairly evident that the folks who settled here came largely from Europe. Rikka you may recognize a few of these Wisconsin town and city names, Berlin, Hamburg, Rhine, and of course Germantown. And I can visit Paris, Brussels, Luxemburg, Scandinavia, Troy, New Denmark, Holland, Moscow, Peru, Lebanon, and Gibraltar all without ever crossing an ocean!

Just for fun here's a little commercial made a while back where they tried to get some folks from Texas to try and pronounce some of our indigenous city names. First the video shows you the name and gives the correct pronunciation and then we hear the efforts of our friends from the Lone Star State. Comedy ensues.

Hi Lizzie-we did well, however,at the moment it has been raining all night. Everything is saturated again! There were some people on the edge of town who had minor flooding, but by and large we dodged a bullet. Our house is pretty close to the town creek, and last year it flooded like no-one local has ever seen it. (We we not locals until 10 years ago when we left Sydney.) have a good one.Debra C.

Great Marc, I really got into the day now... I really like Kickapoo, do you know what it means- in the native language, I mean? Wellll, we'd spell the Rhine Rhein, but that's details. Say hi to the Loreley to me (ever thought of building the Loreley of Rhine?)...
