Fraggles Posted by SmugPuppeteer on Apr 02, 2012
One of my close friends happens to mention he used to love Fraggle Rock and has been looking for a puppet for quite a while just for fun.
His 25th birthday is coming up in a couple of months and I was thinking of making one for him as a present from myself, the wife and our then newborn.
Was looking through youtube and found a video series using the Glorified Sock Puppet pattern to make a Kermit replica. While I could use the images in the video to create my own pattern for free (as I did for Trekkie from publicity photos), I figured for approx $20 per pattern I would save myself the time and just download them.
Obviously I need the Glorified Sock Puppet pattern. Would I need to download the Alternate Body Pattern or would the Basic Body pattern do?

I've used both the regular body sock and the alternate body pattern. The pre-packaged sock body is loose and doesn't have a ton of definition, it covers your arm like a sleeve.
The alternate body is a rigid foam shell that goes over the arm. If you want your Fraggle to have a real neck and waist, it's probably the way to go.
Another advantage to the foam body is that it holds its shape even when you're not performing; it looks more like a stuffed animal on and off the stand. Using a simple sock body will leave the torso unfilled and floppy looking when it's on the shelf.

I was leaning towards the Alternate Body pattern for the rigidity.
Thanks.
Now I just have to wait for payday to be able to get started.

I use the glorified sock and alternate body as a base for my fraggles too
Although I do make foam structures for the heads so they keep the fraggle shape and they can look different.
