I need help for my puppets to come alive again Posted by squirrely on May 02, 2012
I had a lot of fun on my first show.  Only one show so far.  Puppeteers, how can I put myself out there for more puppet shows. I already got 200 business cards for people to call me if they need a puppet show!     I didn't expect to make the cards at first.

Place a business card on public bulletin boards, set up a booth or table at local craft fairs, flea markets with business cards and perhaps make up a brochure that tells folks about your services. Contact local libraries. When in doubt follow Lisa on Facebook....... you can learn alot from her.

Word of mouth is a really good marketing tool. Make sure you get those cards in as many hands as you can when you do shows. Also make sure your information is on a sign when you are doing a show. Someone may not stick around to get a card from you but might read the name of your company and contact details while you are performing.

I think it's safe to say that these things don't just happen overnight.  It takes a lot of time, energy and perseverance to get yourself out there and known.  It's a lot of leg work and probably a lot of down time until you get things moving.  Most importantly, don't give up.  Keep practicing.  Volunteer at local schools if you can (you may need to get a police check done though so be aware).  Make videos and post them on YouTube.  Start a Facebook page.  Put your cards in local craft shops.  If there are any outdoor festivals or something, take a puppet or two and just walk around and talk to people.  Make them laugh, get thin interested.  And while you do that, hand them a card.

Just a few thoughts.  Bottom line though, is be patient.  Something like this has to build.

Now that the weather is warming up, hit the parks. Do a free show and then pass your cards or a small flyer out. Be pretty specific about the kinds of shows you are prepared to do. You might even let the local librarians know about the free show, so that if they have the time they can preview your work.

Wear a T-shirt with your company information might help to.

Also, Facebook and your own website. You need to have the information out there and readily available, so that folks can find you and get more information than a business card can provide.

Yes a Facebook page for your puppet show business is a great idea! It's free and pretty much EVERYONE is on Facebook these days!
